Miguel “Adorn” Full Version

So I just heard this on the radio in the car on the way back home…and literally SCREAMED when it KEPT GOING past approx 2:10. EPIC 😀 Of course as soon as I got home I ran to the computer to find the full extended version & found this wonderfulness…

I will say I was a little tipped off because I noticed something a little different from the original version…the little sound that comes through at around 0:02, 0:05, & so on…it sounds like in almost every group of four bars, it’s coming through on the “3 &” beat of the first bar, the “4 &” beat of the second bar, and the “3 &” beat again on the last bar (hopefully that makes sense to someone!!) Anyway, you will notice that that sound is not present in the original version here…

The reason I picked up on it is because it sounds very similar to what ALWAYS tips me off that “Shake that Monkey” is about to come on (DISCLAIMER: It’s only necessary to listen to about the first 10 seconds…listen any further AT YOUR OWN RISK!!)…a really similar sound occurs twice starting on the “2 &” beat of every bar (hopefully makes sense).

Listening to the part of the song that’s extended, I also feel like it could be a really loose sample of Prince’s “If I Was Your Girlfriend.” The background instrumentals starting at around 2:11 really remind me of that song…take a listen below & maybe you’ll hear what I’m talking about?

Anyway, so happy to FINALLY hear the full version of “Adorn!!” Hope you love it as much as I do 🙂

REALLY feeling this mix…

So smooth! So nice! So different from the original but I think it fits so well! So great! The beat sounds like it came from ’90s era Ginuwine/Missy/Aaliyah/Timbaland in my opinion.

And now I’m feeling this chick’s version too…

Will DEF have to do more on HER later!

Slightly Ashamed…

So I’m feeling kind of conflicted now. I waited with much excitement & expectation for this album to drop today & to proclaim my unabashedly (but really kind of embarrassingly) complete conversion to Bieber fan-dom lol. From the lead single & the other leaked songs that I’ve heard, I thought it was going to be such a great hit that surprised me with his little hints of mature R&B swag. I am sadly a little disappointed 😦

BUT, there are still some songs that I do really enjoy on this album! Favorites = “Catching Feelings,” “Right Here” (this is a GREAT one – featuring Drake! :D), “Die In Your Arms” (really cute song!), & of course the lead single “Boyfriend” (video below, aka NSync’s “Girlfriend” reloaded).

Although not one of my favorites on the album, sounds like Justin is channeling MJ’s “Billie Jean” in lyrical content on “Maria.” Compare for yourself…

Album available below, I guess I just expected more 😦

But he’s still so cute! And I definitely do still love how his voice is maturing 🙂 Looks like this won’t be enough to compel me to see him live, but maybe on the next album!

However, the Biebs still has potential in my book. There are some previous songs of his (“Never Say Never,” “Pray,” “Somebody to Love,” “All I Want For Christmas Is You (SuperFestive!)” w/Mariah, “U Smile” which I think Gavin DeGraw needs to do a cover of + the acoustic version which is great & I appreciate the slightly deeper vocals!!, etc.) that I really like 🙂

In the meantime, I can just continue to enjoy this premiere performance of “Boyfriend” on The Voice which I LOVED…

I really like his voice & the live version of this song. Until next time Biebs!!

So Wonderfully Inspiring

I really just can’t get over this song right now. I’ve basically been playing it on repeat since this weekend when it was posted on Facebook in response to the Stanford Class of 2012’s graduation (CONGRATULATIONS to my little freshmen from my Senior Year in ’09!!). It’s so beautifully inspiring! I am clearly VERY late to the Kurt Carr train & need to jump on!!

And He’s Back :)

So Ursher’s new album came out this week & I’ve really been enjoying it!

MUST LISTENS in my opinion: “I Care For U” & “Dive” are REALLY competing for my favorite on this album. Seriously LOVE both of them, for the most part for the background instrumentals. I also love the production beats on “I Care For U” as well as the background vocal harmonies in “Dive.” I originally heard “I Care For U” on the radio a couple weeks ago & was SO EXCITED to hear the rest of the album. When I heard “Dive,” I thought it was so beautiful I literally almost started crying LOL!

Other favorites: “Show Me,” “Twisted” (featuring Pharrell who I also LOVE & am so excited to hear producing again! I had fallen off of him for a while, but CLEARLY I need to get back…), “What Happened To U” (listen closely…the beginning is a sample of “One More Chance/Stay with Me Remix” by Biggie), “Looking 4 Myself” featuring Luke Steele (which I feel like could be a Frank Ocean song), “I.F.U.,” “Say The Words,” “Hot Thing” (also produced by Pharrell), & of course “Climax.”

I haven’t listened to an entire Usher album since Here I Stand (I became less interested when he started moving to the extreme pop/dance side), so if there are songs I need to listen to on Raymond v. Raymond or Versus that are not already singles, please let me know! In the meantime, here’s Looking 4 Myself (click on the image to listen to the entire deluxe album):

Marcus Canty

So I apologize for being so ridiculously absent for the past couple months. As I mentioned previously, I fasted from music for Lent, and once that was over…well you know how hard it is to get back into the swing of things! But I’m back, hopefully regularly now 🙂

So basically, when I heard this song on the radio a couple weeks ago, the voice sounded so familiar to me. I thought to myself – “Is it Mario? Is it Luke James?” After Shazaming, I was so pleasantly surprised to find out that it was Marcus Canty, one of my FAVORITES from The X Factor. Now, I didn’t even really start following that show until about the top 5 performances. I believe that this was the first episode I ever saw, and upon seeing this performance, I was totally HOOKED on Marcus Canty for the rest of the show:

So although he didn’t win, I was SO HAPPY to hear that L.A. Reid still signed him & that he’s still making & releasing music (this song I’m referring to is actually on the “Think Like a Man” soundtrack). Take a listen & hopefully you enjoy…

Until next time (which hopefully won’t be too far away! 🙂 )
