Country Music Hall of Fame

So for those of you that didn’t know, I had the pleasure of driving my little Jetta all the way across the country from California to my home of Charlotte, NC with 2 of my best friends! The last stop along the way was in Nashville, TN where we visited the Country Music Hall of Fame!

I will admit that this is not my favorite genre of music, but I was so excited to learn a lot of the history that’s come with the Country music business in this country. While there, we had the great opportunity to take a tour of the Historic RCA “Studio B,” which is where so many legendary hits by so many groundbreaking Country music artists were recorded.

To literally be in the same studio and see the same equipment that was used to record some of these major hits – even though I didn’t really even know most of the hits beforehand – was incredible. I even got to play on the piano Elvis recorded on, thanks to some encouragement from my friends & three entertaining older women ūüôā

Particularly of interest to me as we toured the museum was learning about the African American influences in country music as well as the only 2 Black men to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame: DeFord Bailey (1st) & Charley Pride (2nd). It’s a shame, but I hadn’t even heard of either before.

If you can’t get through the whole thing (which admittedly is pretty difficult for me to do :-/ ), here are a few suggestions that you should definitely try to give a listen to:

  • “Oh Lonesome Me” – Don Gibson
  • “I Can’t Stop Loving You” – Don Gibson (also threw in a Ray Charles remake in there)
  • “I Will Always Love You” – Dolly Parton (I’ll admit I hadn’t even heard this version before…she made an insane amount in royalties from Whitney’s version)
  • “Kiss An Angel Good Mornin'” – Charley Pride
  • “All I Have To Do Is Dream” – The Everly Brothers (never knew this was where this song came from!)
  • “Welcome To My World” – Jim Reeves
  • “Crying In The Chapel” – Elvis Presley
  • “On The Rebound” – Floyd Cramer (kinda reminds me of Vince Guaraldi)
  • “Georgia On My Mind” – Floyd Cramer (recognize this instrumental?)
  • “Lay Lady Lay” – Bob Dylan (cover version by Magnet is in Mr. & Mrs. Smith!)
  • “Drift Away” – Dobie Gray

Check out the playlist by clicking on the photo below. All in all, I really enjoyed my visit to “Music City!!” ūüôā
