Asa & Freshlyground

Ok so today was a very lazy day generally spent just hanging around the house & watching TV with the family & friends. In between episodes of Law & Order and The Good Wife (both very intriguing actually…might have to try to start watching The Good Wife on the regular…!), we came across 2 music videos – the latter of which featured a refreshingly multicultural South African Band called Freshlyground. They are apparently the ones who collaborated with Shakira on the official anthem for the 2010 FIFA World Cup: “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” (I don’t know why I didn’t know that even though I was THERE!) Anyway, here’s the second song, “Fire is Low” that we saw…

And now, on to the first video from a previous favorite of mine: Asa (Paris-born Nigerian singer/songwriter). I actually first came across Asa a couple years ago when I was introduced to her debut self-titled album Asa (definitely worth the listen! My personal favorites = Bibanke, Eye Adaba & Awe). So I was happy to see an update from her in the form of such a cute & whimsical video! And is it just me, or is her style in this video kind of reminiscent of Janelle Monae…? Maybe it’s just the hair. Anyway, here’s the video…”Why Can’t We”:

Now since I had already been an Asa fan previously, seeing this video prompted me to go take a listen to her second album, Beautiful Imperfection, released this year in 2011. And now I must RAVE. I actually like most of the rest of the songs on this album better than the single “Why Can’t We,” and…dare I say…I think it’s ┬ásurprisingly even better than her first album. PLEASE LISTEN!! If your musical taste is anything like mine, I think you will LOVE IT!! Enjoy! čśÇ
